When you are cooking for the whole campsite, one pan at a time does not cut it. The OXO Outdoor Double Burner Griddle gives you a flat 44.5 x 28cm cooking surface that sits across two burners of a camp stove or straight over the braai grid, so the eggs, bacon, boerewors and toast all cook together and everyone eats at the same time.
It is pre-seasoned carbon steel, so you can cook on it from the first day, and it is a lot lighter than a cast iron plate of the same size while heating just as evenly. Low walls keep the food on the griddle without getting in the way of your spatula, and a riveted handle at each end makes it easy to lift on and off the heat.
Why carbon steel
Carbon steel heats up fast and spreads the heat evenly across the surface, so you get a proper sear without hot spots. Every time you cook with a little oil, the seasoning builds into a dark, naturally non-stick patina. There is no coating to scratch or wear off, and it handles heat up to 350°C, so it is just as happy over coals or on a camp stove as it is across two burners at home.
How to use it
Give it a rinse and a light wipe of oil before the first cook. Set it across two burners or over an even bed of coals, preheat over medium heat, add a little oil and you are ready to go. Use one end for searing and the other for keeping food warm. The handles get hot over the fire, so use a heatproof glove when you move it. When you are done, wash it by hand, dry it straight away and wipe on a thin coat of oil.
Looking for a first cook? Our Dam Breakfast turns last night’s leftover braai meat into breakfast for everyone, and this griddle has room for the whole batch.
Who it suits
Families, camping groups and 4WD trips where you are feeding a crowd, and anyone with a two-burner camp stove. If you cook for two or want something smaller to pack, our OXO Outdoor square griddle pan is the compact option.
